Top 10 Interview Questions to Be Prepared For

Interview Questions

A job interview is a complex yet necessary part of the hiring process. Interview questions are designed to introduce a potential employee and assess a person beyond their paper resume.

A third of 2,000 hiring managers knew within the first 90 seconds of meeting someone whether they would hire them. You can’t afford to make any mistakes during an interview.

Here are ten questions to expect.

1. Tell Me About Yourself

One of the most challenging questions is often the first you’re asked. Instead of your personal history, discuss your career path and how it led to this interview. Give them a chance to ask follow-up questions.

2. Why Do You Want to Work Here?

Interview preparation includes learning about the company beforehand. This question is intended to learn more about your motives for joining the company, as well as whether you know anything about it.

3. What Can You Bring to This Job?

This is an excellent opportunity to discuss some of the skills you’ve developed, using specific examples. Perhaps you stepped up to handle a customer who was causing trouble, or maybe you have coding experience that came in handy when dealing with a specific issue.

4. What Are You Passionate About?

Employers ask this question to figure out what drives you in the workplace so they can place you in the best area. Don’t be afraid to let them know you’re not a people person if that means you can handle solo jobs well.

5. Why Did You Leave Your Last Job?

Interviewers understand that people leave their jobs for various reasons. Be honest, but avoid insulting your previous employer or making unfounded accusations.

6. What Are Your Strengths and Weaknesses?

Your strengths are where you feel most comfortable and confident. Weaknesses are intended to be areas where you hope to improve.

7. What Do You Hope to Get Out of This Role?

Likewise, employers like to know that you’ll grow in a position—interview questions like this weed out people who are only interested in getting a paycheck.

8. Tell Me About a Time You Dealt with a Problem at Work

Interviewers love examples of your work ethic that they can corroborate with your previous employer. Once again, be honest and describe how you would handle the issue in hindsight.

9. Where Do You See Yourself Five Years From Now?

Let the interviewer know how ambitious you are and what your desired future job is. Don’t let them think you’ll settle for the bare minimum without a clear end goal.

10. Do You Have Any Questions for Me?

Interview answers aren’t the only thing to worry about. Prepare some of your questions in advance to demonstrate that you’ve researched the company and have a genuine interest in the job and its operations.

Be Prepared for Any Interview Questions

Getting a job is stressful, and interview questions often don’t provide much help. It helps to think of it as getting to know a future coworker or boss. Even if you aren’t the most qualified, you could still be the best match in terms of personality.
