With gyms closing down left and right and everyone being forced to stay at home, you may be wondering how you can reach your weight loss goals while stuck at home. Roughly 76% of Americans have gained weight (as much as 16 pounds) between March and July by staying home all day.

Being stuck at home sucks for many reasons. On the upside, it also means we have more time to exercise and cook healthy meals at home. If you want to learn how to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle while staying home, keep reading for our tips.

Eat on a Schedule to Lose Weight

One of the toughest parts about working from home while also trying to stick to healthy eating for weight loss is easy. It is to lose track of your snacking. Your days have less structured than you’re used to. You’re accessible to food 24/7. You may find yourself looking for a snack even if you’re not hungry.

One way to curb snacking is to plan an eating schedule and stick to it. Include the times you’ll eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and yes, even your snacks.

Turn Your Commute Time into Time for Exercise

The time you used to spend stuck in traffic commuting to work and back home can now be spent on moving your body. If you feel too unmotivated in the morning to do high-intensity workouts, try walking workouts or running for weight loss. Cardio does great exercise to lose weight when done consistently.

After you’re finished with work in the evening, you can do some bodyweight exercises at home and follow videos online if going to the gym is no longer an option. No exercise equipment and need some home gym ideas? Use any heavy books or water jugs you may have to lie around the house as a sub for weights or blocks.

Cook More At Home

Especially during times like these, when ordering take-out has become easier than ever before, it can be tempting to order out every or most day. Many of us don’t even have time to cook or have the mental energy to prepare a meal.

However, when you prepare your own meals at home, you have more control over what you eat. You control how much salt goes into your food, and you have control over your portions.

Get Some Sleep

Did you know your sleeping pattern affects your weight? Studies show that despite eating the same amount of calories, dieters who cut back on their sleepover for a 2 week period lost 55% less fat than regular sleep schedules. The dieters reported their energy feeling zapped and feeling hungrier and less satisfied after meals.

Stay Hydrated

Americans aren’t drinking enough water each day, and this needs to change. Dehydration leads to overeating and low energy.

If you feel hungry, try drinking a glass of water first before eating a snack. Sometimes our bodies are trying to tell us to drink more water, and we confuse that feeling with hunger.
